Amid the Roar

I received my BA in Anthropology from the University of Missouri- St. Louis in 2013.  That same year I entered the workforce and set out to help change the culture of healthcare in America for the better. After 7 years of analytics, process improvement, Agile certifications, a Masters in Healthcare Administration, and doing everything I could to positively influence the culture of my teams and organizations I realized that something was missing. My current career path wasn’t enough.

As a result, I spent the past few years gaining hands on experience and knowledge of crafting through my community. It was at Craft Alliance, Third Degree, Perennial, and the Crooked Dog studios that I rekindled my passion for learning. I gained skills that I never new I could such as lost wax casting, cuttlebone casting, and slip casting. I learned how to fuse glass and make beads through lampworking. This gave me an insight into cultural history that I had not full experienced before, the creation of artifact.

I studied St. Louis history and the ways we can preserve historical elements through giving new life to broken objects. I learned that role replication has in greater perspective of an educator and as a student. Through creation I learned that my relationship with the world around me was shaped by what I chose to learn. That kicked off my quest to learn more, to create, to study myself and my environment. Through my discontent in the workforce that I realized what I must do. I had to get back to the heart of what I want to pursue, anthropology, archaeology, and museums.
